Dragonettes Catch Fire On Fannin Late: Pickens Picks Up 45-38 Win

The Pickens Dragonettes had a thriller against Fannin on Friday, narrowly defeating the Lady Rebels in a game between two evenly matched teams trying to take advantage of each others’ flaws in four quarters of action. The “Nettes” caught fire late, pulling out a 45-38 victory.The first half of play was back-and-forth throughout, and a three-pointer by junior, Makayla Angel, before the buzzer gave the “Nettes” a slim 27-26 going into the locker room. A defensively dominated third quarter saw only six points scored in total, setting up an exciting finish in Jasper.

The Dragonettes, with big plays from freshman Haley Kalson, sophomore Sarah Smith, and junior Kadie Mullinax, were able to put the Lady Rebels away late, winning the game with a final score of 45-38.

Kadie Mullinax led the Dragonettes in scoring with eleven points on the night. Sarah Smith led the team in rebounds with nine, another impressive outing for the 11th grader. Three Dragonettes—Kadie Mullinax, Sarah Smith, and Haley Kalson—ended the night with two steals.

The Dragonettes’ next set of games starts on December 27th, as they will play in the three-day Pickens Holiday Classic Tournament. The team’s first game is set to tip off at 6:00 that day.
