The Dragons and Dragonettes saved their best play for the final day of the Pickens Holiday Classic, as both teams played outstanding basketball and came out victorious.The first game featured the Dragonettes and the Ringgold Lady Tigers. A great start in the first half for Pickens gave the Nettes a comfortable twelve point lead going into the locker room, a lead the team would not relinquish in the second half.

The Nettes went on to win the game by a score of 64-41, giving the Dragonettes a 3-0 record in the tournament.

Junior Danielle Goss had an outstanding game, leading Pickens in scoring and rebounding with twenty-six points and ten rebounds.

The Dragons followed the Dragonettes with a chance to give Pickens a clean sweep on the night, facing off with the dangerous Sequoyah Chiefs.

The Chiefs came out and looked determined to blow out the Dragons, outscoring the home team by fourteen points in the first three quarters to play.

However, Pickens took the momentum in the crucial fourth quarter of play, riding a hot streak that brought the team within striking distance and taking the lead on a three-pointer by Spencer Jones, a shot that the senior point guard seemed to know would be nothing but net as soon as he let it go, with just forty seconds left in the fourth quarter.

The Chiefs tried to close the gap in what little time they had left in the game, but two foul shots by Wesley Easterwood sealed the deal for Pickens. The Dragons won the game by a final score of 58-53, capping off an intense matchup that saw the Dragons finish the game on an unbelievable 28-9 run.

Wesley Easterwood led the Dragons in scoring in this game, finishing the night with twenty-eight points. Spencer Jones led the team in rebounding with nine.

The Dragons and Dragonettes have some downtime as New Year’s Day approaches, as the two teams don’t play again until January 3rd, when both teams hit the road to take on Ringgold. The Dragonettes’ game tips off at 6:00 with the Dragons’ game slated to start at 7:30.
