Pickens Plays Perfect and Mangles Murray

The Pickens Dragons and Dragonettes took on the Murray Indians and Lady Indians at Pickens High School in a set of games that both ended with the home team coming out on top.The opening game of the night, featuring the Dragonettes and the Lady Indians, saw tight competition in the first half of play, as excellent play by both teams led to Pickens leading by just six points at halftime.

The Dragonettes turned it up a notch in the third quarter, outscoring the Lady Indians 17-2 to possess a comfortable 49-28 lead going into the fourth. Pickens cruised through the fourth quarter and won the game by a final score of 61-38.

Danielle Goss led the Dragonettes in scoring with fifteen points. Two Nettes players—Sarah Smith and Makayla Angel—tied for the team lead in rebounds with seven each. Angel also led the team in assists and steals on the night with six assists and three steals, respectively.

Looking to complete the sweep of the Indians, the Dragons hit the court fired up and ready to play, outscoring Murray 18-3 in the opening quarter.

While Murray was able to match Pickens in scoring in the second quarter of play and continued to play tough in all four quarters of the game, the Dragons refused to be stopped on this night, defeating the Indians by a final score of 74-44.

Spencer Jones led the Dragons in scoring and assists with twenty points and five assists in the victory. Wesley Easterwood and Sam Crawford tied for the team lead in rebounding with six rebounds each.

The Dragonettes and Dragons face off with another sub-region opponent on Friday when they travel to Polk County to take on the Cedartown Bulldogs. The Dragonettes’ game is set to tip off at 6:00 with the Dragons’ game following at 7:30.
