Murray Mercy Ruled 15-0: Pickens Ceased Fire after Three

The Pickens Dragons baseball team hosted the Indians of Murray County. The Dragons toasted the Indians 15-0 in a game that was called in the third after Jake Klein’s RBI double scored Tyler Garner for the game’s 15th and final run.The Dragons took the field in the first inning with Jesse Decker on the mound. Decker faced three batters, striking out two, allowing only one base runner who was picked off trying to steal second base.

The bottom of the first fed the Dragons fire. Eric Justice led off with a single to centerfield. Dylan Childers followed with a single down the third base line that put runners on first and third base.

A walk by Tanner Brumby briefly loaded the bases; however, Justice scored when he stole home on a passed ball to make the score 1-0.

Two balks later the Dragons led 3-0. An RBI single by Dylan Clark followed by an RBI double by Garner put the Dragons up 5-0.

The Dragons scored five more runs before an out was recorded. The inning ended with the Pickens leading 10-0.

Pickens picked up defensively right where it left off, despite a pitching change. Taylor Logan took the mound and recorded two straight strike outs before a ground out ended the top of the inning.

Following a lead off strike out, Tyler Garner hit a double to deep left field. Klein’s walk put men on first and second.

Another strike out preceded a walk by Brumby that loaded the bases. Two walks and two runs later the Indians made the second pitching change of the night, the first coming after the top of the second. It did not help the Murray cause.

Pickens picked up two more runs via walks, before a called full count third strike was called on Chandler Cope ended the inning with Pickens leading 14-0.

The Dragons sent Sean Stargel to the mound in the top of the third. Stargel struck out the first two batters he faced before hitting the third for a walk.

A single to right field put runners on first and third, and gave the Indians the first hope of Tomahawk chopping the Dragons’ lead; however, a ground out to first ended the scoring threat.

The bottom of the third began with Garner leading off with a walk. Klein ended the game with the aforementioned RBI double that scored the 15th run of the night and mercy ruled Murray.
