This past Tuesday, the Nettes varsity basketball team hosted the Lady Tigers of Dawson County High School in the season and home opener of the 2014-15 season. Despite the frigid cold temperature, fans made their way to the Dragons Den to watch some high school basketball. Prior to the varsity action, the JV boys would lose a tough one at the buzzer to the JV Tigers. The Nettes would look to even up the win totals on the night as they took the court.

The Lady Tigers would get off to a quick start in the opening quarter as they held the Nettes to just two points and take a 13 point lead heading into the 2nd quarter, 15-2. Dawson would again play strong defense as they outscored the Nettes 16-8 to take a 31-10 lead as we hit the half. The Nettes came out in the 3rd and found a bit of offense but were outscored 13-10 in the quarter and trailed 44-20 going into the 4th. Dawson took this one in Jasper 66-29.

Leading the way for the Nettes would be Taylor Wigington with 9 points, 1 assist, and 4 rebounds.

Haley Kalson finished with 4 points, and 3 rebounds

Mackenzie Hampton finished with 4 points, and 2 rebounds

MaKayla Payne added 3 assists, and 1 rebound

This young Nettes team will now focus on the annual Thanksgiving tournament held this year at Gilmer High School. The 3-day tournament pits Pickens, Gilmer, Fannin, and Copper Basin (TN) in a round robin format where everyone plays everyone. The Nettes will open the tournament on Saturday Nov. 22nd at 3 against Fannin. The final two days of the tournament will be played on Monday, Nov. 24th and Tuesday, Nov. 25th.
