Nettes End Losing Skid With Road Win At West Hall

This past Friday, the Nettes varsity basketball team traveled to Hall County to take on the Lady Spartans of West Hall in non region action. Pickens, who came into the ball game carrying a several game losing streak, looked to get a win prior to their Christmas tournament. In what was a back and forth battle, the Nettes pulled through.The Nettes started off on a good run in the opening quarter, but it was the Lady Spartans who took control towards the end of the frame holding on to a 13-10 lead going to the second quarter. The Pickens defense made it’s presence felt in the second quarter as it powered the Nettes to an 11-6 run and the halftime lead, 21-19. Both defenses came out working in the third as 15 total points were scored between the two teams and Pickens clinging to a 29-26 advantage going to the fourth. The Nettes pulled away in the final quarter outscoring West Hall 15-8 to get the win, 44-38.

The Nettes on the season are 5-7 and 2-3 in 7AAAA region play

Leading the way for Pickens Friday night would be:

Haley Kalson: 10 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 steals

Taylor Wigington: 10 points, and 2 assists

Makayla Payne: 6 points, 2 assists, and 2 rebounds

Kaitlin Redman: 6 points, and 6 rebounds

Ashley Nelson: 5 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, and 2 steals

Paula Pickett: 3 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 steals

Mackenzie Hampton added 2 points, 1 rebound, and 5 steals

The Nettes now will take advantage of winter break and rest and prepare for the Pickens Holiday Tournament at PHS. Pickens will play in the final game every night which starts this Saturday the 27th. The Nettes will begin their tournament by playing Riverwood at 6 pm.
