Dragons Fall To Panthers Will Be The 7th Seed In The Region Tournament

Tonight, the Dragons varsity basketball team traveled to Ridgeland to take on the Panthers in 7AAAA action. Both teams came into the ball game tied for the 6th spot in the region standings. By the end of the night, only one team could lay claim to it.Much like the Nettes before them, the Dragons got off to a slow start to begin the first quarter. down 8-0 at one point, Pickens outscored Ridgeland 11-4 to trim the lead to 12-11 heading to the second. The Panthers outscored the Dragons in the second quarter 15-12, to take a 27-23 lead into the break.

Pickens came out in the third and outscored Ridgeland 15-11 in the quarter to tie things up at 38 a piece as we headed to the fourth quarter. The Panthers got the best of the fourth outscoring the Dragons 24-21 as a last second three point attempt would not fall for Pickens and fell to Ridgeland, 62-59. The Dragons finishes the regular season 11-14 overall and 3-11 in region play.

Leading the way for Pickens tonight were:

Shannon Brooks: 14 points, 3 assists, 10 rebounds, and 2 steals

Trent Rizoti: 14 points, 1 assist, 8 rebounds, and a steal

Walker Lawrence: 6 points, 1 assist, and 2 rebounds

Sam Davis: 5 points, 1 assist, 4 rebounds, and 2 blocks

The Dragons will now prepare for the region tournament as they will play the 2nd seed Cartersville Tuesday, February 10th at Southeast Whitfield. A win will secure a state tournament berth. Tip off is scheduled for 8:30 pm.
