Bobcats Burnt: Pickens Pounds Region Rival 11-0

The Pickens High School Dragons baseball team burnt the Bobcats of Gilmer with an 11-0 road victory. The win saw the game called after the fourth inning and starting pitcher, Travis Huffman, throw the full four innings of shutout baseball with seven strike outs, including the last two outs of the night.The Dragons caught fire early, scoring five runs in the first inning. The scoring began when Tyler Garner walked with bases loaded, scoring Huffman.

Dalton Presley followed Garner with an RBI sac ground out that pushed the lead up to 2-0. The lead ballooned to 5-0 when Walker Lawrence followed Presley with a two out three run home run that finished the scoring for the inning.

Despite the Bobcats loading the bases in the bottom of the first, a one, two, three double play followed by Huffan’s first strike out of the night, ended the inning with the Dragons’ lead intact.

The score remained 5-0 until the top of the fourth, when the Dragons lit up the Bobcats’ scoreboard. Cameron Gregory pushed Pickens’ lead to 6-0 with a two out RBI double.

A single from Garner put men on first and second, before a Presley walk loaded the bases.

Lawrence came through again, this time with an RBI single that made the score 7-0.

Joseph Gossett followed Lawrence with an RBI single that pushed Pickens’ lead to 7-0.

Travis Seay ended the scoring for the evening with a three run, base clearing double that saw the Dragons take an 11-0 lead into the bottom of the inning.

The Dragons allowed only the leadoff batter to reach base in the final half inning of the game, before a ground out and Huffman’s last two strike outs of the night ended the game with the Dragons winning 11-0.
