Team FYN Sports

Earlier this evening, the PHS Dragons varsity basketball team took on the Heritage Generals in 7-AAAA region action. Pickens came into the game with a season record of 2-3 and a region record of 0-1 looking to get things back on track.

Much like the 1st quarter in the Nettes’ game, the Dragons got off to a slow start. The Generals took a 20-9 lead going to the 2nd frame. In the 2nd quarter, Heritage caught fire and could not miss. The Generals outscored the Dragons in the quarter, 22-9 to take a 42-18 lead into the break.

The 3rd quarter was more closely contested. Heritage barely outscored Pickens in the quarter, 16-11, but still held a lead of 58-29 going into the 4th. The 4th and final quarter was the best quarter for the Dragons on the night. Pickens outscored the Generals 17-12, but it was Heritage coming away with the win, 70-47. With the tough loss, Pickens is now 2-4 on the season and 0-2 in region play.

Leaders for the Dragons were:

Seth Bishop: 15 points, & 1 assist

D.J. Walden: 7 points, 1 assist, & 5 rebounds

Avery Luke: 7 points, 1 assist, & 1 rebound

Tyler Garner added 3 points, 6 rebounds, & a steal, while Holden Roop finished with 2 points, 4 assists, & 3 rebounds.

The Dragons will be home this Friday night as they host their bitter rival, the Gilmer Bobcats as Pickens looks to get their first win in region play. Tip off is scheduled for 8:30 p.m.
