Aid Pours into Pickens in Search and Rescue

News

According to Facebook Posts by the Pickens County Sheriff’s Office, aid continues to come in from surrounding counties in the search for the missing  79-year-old Ben Thebaut.

While other counties are sending in manpower in the form of teams from Gilmer County Search and Rescue and Calhoun Search and Rescue, citizens are also attempting to aid. So much so that the Pickens Sheriff’s Office had to ask people two days ago to not go into the area until the search had been broadened safely.

Ben ThebautMore volunteers have come in from the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, Gilmer County Sheriff’s Office, Pickens County Emergency Preparedness, Georgia Department of Corrections, and Cherokee County Georgia Search & Rescue teams. The combined effort has scoured the woods and still continues the work “with amazing volunteers.”

Though there is still more work to be done, Pickens County has no shortage of support from locals and neighbors throughout the area. As more volunteers continue to help, coordination and briefings are continuing through Pickens Fire and the Pickens Sheriff’s Office.
