Dragons Big Comeback Falls Just Short Against Ridgeland, Host Ramblers This Afternoon

PHS Basketball, Team FYN Sports

Last night, the PHS Dragons varsity basketball team hosted the Panthers of Ridgeland in a 6-AAAA battle inside the Dragons Den. Pickens, came into the ball game looking to build some momentum up heading into the final couple games of the season ahead of the region tournament.

In the 1st, both teams were locked in offensively. The Panthers came out of the 1st with an 18-14 lead over the Dragons going to the 2nd. In the 2nd, Ridgeland looked to extend their lead over Pickens. Using a 24-17 2nd quarter advantage, the Panthers went into the half with 42-31 lead.

In the 3rd, Pickens looked to make a comeback. Down 16 at one point, the Dragons used a 17-14 3rd quarter advantage to cut the Ridgeland lead down to 56-48, going to the 4th. Still trailing in the 4th, Pickens used momentum built in the 3rd to cut the Panthers lead down to 66-63 with several seconds remaining. However, despite outscoring Ridgeland in the 2nd half 32-26, it would not be enough as the Panthers hung on for the win, 67-63.
