Raymond J. Brown Jr., 90, passed Saturday, August 19, 2017 in his home surrounded by his daughters.

He is survived by his daughters, Fay (Brown) Hunczak, Ellen (Brown) Capps, and Allison (Brown) Johnson; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; his sister, Mary Ellen (Brown) Anderson; younger brother, Floyd Brown and many close friends.

Born in Washington D.C., he lived in many cities due to his father’s military career. The majority of his childhood was in Arlington, Virginia after which he lived in Coral Gables, Florida and Seattle, Washington. After completing high school in Coral Gables, he enlisted for a short period of service in the Navy at the end of World War II. He went on to attend and graduate from Florida State University. He met his wife Betty Fay Roberts while attending graduate school in New Orleans.

Mr. Brown married Betty, September 4, 1954 and remained in loving matrimony until her passing in July of 2016. Mr. Brown’s early occupations included successful employment in banking but his true vocation became his career in computers. At the age of forty the family moved to Atlanta, Georgia and Mr. Brown was employed by Standard Oil as a programmer. Over the years his skills and ability to adapt to the ever changing technology earned him higher positions until he settled at Southern Company Services as their Systems Analyst and Qualitative Assurance Specialist. He was their programming problem solver and trained many interns who went on to successful careers of their own.

Throughout his life, Mr. Brown was physically active and very involved with nature conservation. In his youth he was an avid hunter, hiker and sportsman. In his retirement, he served on various committees in Bent Tree, including the Lake and Wildlife committee. He served as Chairman of the Board twice for Bent Tree and used his programming skills to aid them in setting up programs to manage community finances.

A memorial service will be held 1:00 p.m. at Fellowship Presbyterian Church on Thursday, August 24, 2017.
