Jasper, GA – The Pickens County Board of Education held their monthly meeting on Thursday, August 10, at 6:00 P.M.
On the general fund report, the BOE explained most of the revenue that the board receives during the months of July and August are added to the prior year payroll. Currently, for the 2017-18 Fiscal Year, the board has only collected 0.86% of revenue and have spent 4.4% of its budgeted expenditures.
At the ending enrollment of May 25, 2017, we were at 4,265 students, currently we are at 4,453 students. The school system has 74 no shows this school year. Many have gone to other schools and homeschooling so the number of no shows should decrease as they are located.
Next on the agenda the board discussed transportation. Currently we are running 61 buses with 73 routes so we are down around twelve bus drivers. Bus driver training is coming up and there are seven attending to get more buses on the road. Last year buses drove 521,000 miles with 543 field trips and athletic trips. Our buses drive around 3,000 miles a day.
The Board approved an out of state field trip for Pickens High School’s cross country team to Orlando. Eight students will be attending along with three coaches from October 5 to October 8. The group will be having a big cross country meeting and be able to go to Disney World. Boost club will be covering the expenses for the trip.
At the end of the Board of Education Meeting Delane Lewis stated,
Thank you to everyone for all the hard work. It’s been a great first part of the year from my perspective.
