Mr. William McNair, 86, of Jasper (formerly of Dallas, GA), passed away Tuesday, November 28, 2017 after a long battle with dementia. He was born April 15, 1931 in Columbia County, GA and after graduating from Harlem High School in Harlem, GA he attended the University of Georgia majoring in Vocational Agriculture. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force, during the Korean War. He served with the 731st Bomb Squadron, Light Night Attack as a Radar Engineer, which changed his career from Voc. Ag. to electronics, radar and missile systems. After the Air Force he went into sales and marketing, retiring from Slater Electric and Acme Transformer as Sales and Marketing Manager.

Bill is survived by his wife of 42 years, Peggy Austin McNair; 3 living children, William David (Sibyl) McNair, Canton, Valerie Lynn McNair, Alpharetta, and Robert Clifton McNair, Alpharetta; and stepson Charles A. Bufford (Jincy), Jasper; 8 grandchildren; and 8 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Glenn Dixon McNair, and 2 brothers, Robert “Bob” McNair of Lake Hartwell, SC. and James G. McNair of Harlem, GA.

The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 noon. The service will be 12:00 noon, December 8, 2017 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Andrew McNair and Reverend Allen Davis officiating. Interment will follow at Georgia National Memorial Cemetery, Canton, GA with prayer by Reverend Buck Parker.
