‘Nettes Start Holiday Classic With Big Win Over Christian Heritage

Earlier this afternoon, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team, once again found themselves in Fannin competing in a tournament. This time, it was the Mountain Top Holiday Classic. Pickens, drew the 9-1 Christian Heritage Lady Lions for their first game. The ‘Nettes, were looking to end a two game skid after an 8-0 start to the season.

 

The first quarter, saw a back and forth frame as the two teams, who were a combined 17-3 coming into the game, traded bucket for bucket. The Lady Lions of Christian Heritage held a slim lead over the ‘Nettes going to the 2nd, 9-8. It would be more of the same in the 2nd quarter as neither team good gain a sizable lead. We would head to the break, all tied up at 19 a piece.

 

In the 3rd, the trend continued from the first half with both teams staying neck and neck with each other. Christian Heritage, used a 16-14 quarter advantage to take a slim 35-33 lead over Pickens into the 4th and final quarter. In the 4th, the defense for the ‘Nettes would come up big & by using a 17-10 quarter run, Pickens stunned the Lady Lions & sealed a 50-45 win.

 

Leading the way for the ‘Nettes were:

Mykenzie Weaver: 13 points, 2 assists, 4 rebounds, & 1 steal

Mackenzie Hampton: 10 points, 3 assists, 10 rebounds, & 2 steals

Shelby Cook: 9 points, 1 assist, & 8 rebounds

Torie Williams: 8 points, 7 assists, 2 rebounds, & 3 steals

Hattie Baker: 7 points, & 1 rebound

Allie Stephens: 2 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, & 3 steals

Olivia Simmons: 2 points, 2 rebounds, & 1 steal

 

With the win, Pickens will now play the White County Lady Warriors at 2 pm tomorrow for a spot in the championship game on Saturday.
