Nettes get non-region win at home against Adairsville

Jasper, Ga — After a tough game on the road against the Heritage Lady Generals the night before, the Pickens Dragonettes were right back at it on Saturday afternoon as they welcomed the Adairsville Lady Tigers to the Dragons Den for a non-region ball game. The Nettes, came into the ball game with the Lady Tigers looking to get back on track before they head back on on the road for a big week next week. After a high scoring first quarter, the Nettes defense settled in and Pickens came away with a 78-39 win.

 

The scoring started early in this one as the offense for both teams clicked in this mid afternoon game. Lilly Simmons got the scoring started for the Nettes as she nailed a three pointer. Adairsville came back with a 4-0 run to take their first lead of the game, 4-3. Pickens countered with a 4-0 run themselves as Caroline Mullins and Madison Powell made back to back buckets. An 8-0 run from the Lady Tigers gave them a 12-7 advantage. After the two teams traded buckets, the Nettes went on a 7-0 run, led by Carmyn Mullins and Cassidy Richards, to give Pickens the 16-14 lead. A bucket and a free throw gave Adairsville a 17-16 lead late in the first quarter. Just before the end of the quarter, Reagan Harwood hit a three to give the Nettes a 19-17 lead.

The second quarter, belonged to Pickens. The Nettes caused a flurry of turnovers which led to multiple chances on offense. Pickens got contributions from several different players during the second quarter as they expanded their lead. The Nettes, outscored the Lady Tigers 27-4 in the second quarter to take a 46-21 lead into the break.

The third quarter, much like the first quarter, was a high scoring frame as a combined 34 points were scored between the two teams. Pickens, using a 20-14 quarter run, extended it’s lead over Adairsville to 66-35 going to the fourth.

The Nettes began the shortened fourth quarter with an 11-0 run to make it 77-35. Pickens picked up their 12th win of the season with a 78-39 win over Adairsville.

Pickens, will start a four game road trip that spans a week on Tuesday January 19th as they head to Ridgeland to take on the Lady Panthers in 7-AAAA action. Tip off time is set for 6 pm.

 

Nettes drop tough road region game to Heritage

Ringgold, Ga — The Pickens Dragonettes came into their game against the Heritage Lady Generals on Friday, January 15th winners of 10 games in a row and in first place in 7-AAAA at 6-0. The Lady Generals, came in winners of 5 straight, and in 3rd place in 7-AAAA. The last time these two teams met the Nettes defeated Heritage 73-27 on December 8th in Jasper. The second meeting, was much closer. After a tough ball game, the Lady Generals came away with a 52-45 win.

 

Heritage got on the board first in the opening quarter with a three pointer. The Lady Generals, held a 6 point lead on two occasions, but a free throw by Emma Gleason and a three pointer from Reagan Harwood, cut the lead down to 12-10 going to the second.

Amanda Nelson made a bucket to tie things up at 12 early on in the second quarter. After a bucket by Heritage, Madison Powell put the Nettes up for the first time with a three. After a 9-0 run by the Lady Generals, Caroline Mullins went on a personal 5-0 run to cut the Heritage lead down to 23-20 as we hit halftime.

Heritage started the second half with a bucket to increase their lead to 25-20. Pickens then went on a 5-0 run getting a bucket from Powell and another three from Caroline Mullins to tie it up at 25 a piece. After the Lady Generals scored a bucket to retake the lead, Harwood and Caroline Mullins hit back to back buckets to give the Nettes a 29-27 lead. The two teams traded three pointers as Heritage hit one to take a 30-29 lead. Then, Powell hit another three to make it 32-30.  The Lady Generals came back with a three to make it 33-32. Nelson then hit a three to give Pickens the 35-33 lead. Heritage finished the half with a bucket, and a free throw to make it 36-35 to send us to the fourth.

The start of the fourth quarter saw the Lady Generals go on a little 3-0 run to make it 39-35. Caroline Mullins and Cassidy Richards led an 8-0 run for the Nettes as Mullins hit a bucket and a free throw while Richards made a bucket and a three pointer to give Pickens the 43-39 lead. From there, Heritage would go on a 13-0 run including hitting 6 free throws to take a 52-43 lead. Richards added two late free throws, but the Lady Generals would take this one, 52-45.

The Nettes, are now 11-3 overall and 6-1 in 7-AAAA play. They’ll step away from region play on Saturday afteroon as they welcome the Adairsville Lady Tigers to Jasper. Tip off is set for 3 pm.
