Dragons Swept by Bulldogs Bite

The Pickens High School Dragons baseball team was swept in a three game series with the Cedartown Bulldogs. Pickens came into the series hot, with a 6-3 record; however the sweep by the Bulldogs has dropped the Dragons to .500 at 6-6.Game one saw the Dragons get down early, falling into a 3-0 deficit before rallying in the bottom of second inning to tie the game 3-3. The Bulldogs bit back in the top of the third adding two more runs for a 5-3 lead.

Pickens picked up its last run in the bottom of the third and the Cedartown added three more in the top of the fifth for the 8-4 win.

Zack Herman led Pickens in game one with two RBI’s, Colton Prather and Eric Justice had the other two. Herman, Bryan Morris, Jesse Decker, and Dylan Clark scored the runs.

Dylan Childers started on the mound for the Dragons and pitched five innings with six strike outs. Justice pitched the last two with four strike outs.

Game two began much the same as game two, with the Dragons falling behind early; this time Cedartown scored four runs in the bottom of the first.

Pickens picked up one in the top of third and tied the game in the top of the fourth; however, Cedartown took the lead in with two runs in the same inning adding another one in the sixth for a 7-4 victory.

Logan Taylor led Pickens in RBI’s in game two with two; Herman had the other one. Eric Baker, Prather, Decker and Clark each scored a run.

Cedartown took an early lead in game three as well, scoring in the top of the first. Pickens picked up its first lead of the series with three runs in the bottom of the fourth for a 3-1 lead.

The Bulldogs tied the game in the top of the sixth and won it in the game’s only extra inning, scoring one run in the top of the eight for a 5-4 win and the sweep.

Decker lead the Dragons in RBI’s in game three; Tanner Brumby and Childers each had one. Brumby, Childers, Clark and Ty Prather each scored a run.

Justice pitched the first seven innings with seven strike outs and for a 2.00 game three ERA. Prather and Chandler Cope finished the game.

The Dragons next face Cass on the road, Tuesday April 2nd at 5:55.
