Yesterday, The Nettes varsity basketball team came back to the Dragons Den for the first time since November 18th as they hosted the Lady Spartans of West Hall in non region action. Pickens, coming off of an impressive win in LaFayette on Tuesday, looked to continue their good play against the Lady Spartans. Defense would be the story of this game.
The Nettes would start off the first quarter on an 8-0 run before the Lady Spartans made a run of their own and Pickens held a first quarter lead of 13-8. The defense for the Nettes kicked in during the 2nd quarter as Pickens outscored West Hall 24-13 to take a 37-21 lead into halftime. Both teams found success offensively in the 3rd quarter as the Nettes barely outscored the Lady Spartans 18-16 to hold a lead of 55-37 going to the 4th and final quarter. The Nettes held the scoring advantage in the 4th, 14-13, to win the ball game 69-50 to even their record at 3-3 on the season.
Defensively, the Nettes had 12 steals as a team on the afternoon

Ashley Nelson: 8 points, 1 assist, and 2 rebounds
Taylor Wigington: 6 points, 1 assist, 5 rebounds, and 3 steals
Paula Pickett: 5 points, 2 assists, 10 rebounds, and 1 steal
Shelby Cook: 4 points, and 4 rebounds
Autumn Young: 3 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds, and 1 steal
The Nettes will now turn their attention to region play and Heritage as the Lady Generals come to the Dragons Den on Tuesday, the 9th. The tip off for that one is set for 6 pm.
