Dragons Fall To Forsyth Central In Non-Region Action

Yesterday afternoon, the Dragons varsity basketball team hosted the Forsyth Central Bulldogs out of the 7A classification for a non-region contest. Pickens, came into the ball game having won back to back region games against Heritage & Ridgeland, & looked to end the week with their 3rd straight win.

 

The first quarter of this game was much like the Dragons game against Ridgeland the other night, back & forth. The visiting Bulldogs, took a one point lead going to the 2nd, 13-12. In the 2nd quarter, the two teams remained close, but Forsyth Central was able to extend it’s lead slightly over Pickens going to the break, 28-22.

 

In the 3rd, the Bulldogs, would outscore the Dragons by ten, 20-10, to take a 48-32 lead going to the 4th & final quarter of play. The 4th quarter was closely played as Forsyth Central outscored Pickens 20-14, to seal the win, 68-46.

Seth Bishop: 23 points, 2 assists, 9 rebounds, 1 steal

Zach Goss: 7 points, 1 assist, 5 rebounds

Tucker Lowe: 4 points, 1 assist, 1 rebound

Owen Moss: 4 points, 1 rebound

Hunter Hermann: 3 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, & 1 steal

Brady Moore: 3 points, 2 rebounds

Pickens, will be in action on Friday as they host the LaFayette Lady Ramblers & Ramblers for key region match ups. The Nettes’, will start things off at 7 pm, followed by the Dragons at 8:30 pm.

Dragons Tied For Fourth In Region, Look To Seal Playoff Spot Next Week

This past Friday, the PHS Dragons varsity football team made the long trip up to Rossville to take on the num. 5 ranked team in 4-A, the Ridgeland Panthers. In recent meetings between these two teams, they have provided some heart stopping excitement for the fan bases & looked to have another good game this past Friday night.

 

The Panthers, won the toss, but elected to differ to the 2nd half, giving the Dragons the ball first. Ridgeland was able to pick off a 3rd down pass attempt after it had been tipped, and took it to the end zone for the early score and a 7-0 lead at the 10:34 mark of the opening quarter. The Panthers stretched it’s lead out to 14-0 after a 3-yd TD run at the 6:24 mark. Ridgeland added a 2nd 3-yd TD run to take a 21-0 lead over Pickens going to the 2nd quarter.

 

Both teams traded series’ until the Panthers tacked on a 36-yd TD run at the 4:02 mark to make it 27-0. The Dragons got on the board for the 1st time on the night after Jacob Brumby hooked up with Zach Goss for a 25-yd TD. Goss, made and outstanding catch, and then stretched out to make it into the end zone to make it 27-7 Ridgeland at the 2:55 mark of the 1st half. The Panthers got a 61-yd TD run at the 2:40 mark, to give usa score of 34-7 at the half.

 

The 2nd half was a very back and forth half with the two teams finding the end zone multiple times in the 3rd quarter. The Dragons kicked off the scoring in the 3rd at the 5:44 mark after a 25-yd TD run by Robert Davis to make it 34-14 Panthers. Ridgeland scored on a 76-yd TD run at the 4:40 mark to make it 41-14. Brumby & Goss connected for a 2nd time at the 2:14 mark on a 31-yd pitch and catch to make it 41-21, going into the 4th.

 

The Panthers scored just as the 4th got underway after a 30-yd TD run to make it 48-21 with 11:51 left to go in the game. Ridgeland then would add the final points of the game after an 18-yd TD run to make it the eventual final score of 55-21.

Pickens, is now 4-4 overall, & 2-2 in region play. They are currently tied in 4th with Southeast Whitfield, but hold the tiebreaker over the Raiders due to the win earlier in the season. The Dragons can lock up a playoff spot next Friday against LaFayette with a win.

 

 

PHS Girls Golf Defeats River Ridge Prepare For Region Tournament

Yesterday, the PHS Girls golf team hosted the River Ridge Lady Knights golf team at Bent Tree in the final match before the 7-AAAA region tournament. While the boys team for PHS practiced for the upcoming region tournament, the girls looked to get a win before next week.

 

A win is indeed what the ladies of PHS Golf were able to get as they defeated the Lady Knights of River Ridge, 160-175. With the final match out of their way, the girls can now join the boys team in preparing for the upcoming region tournament.

 

After their practice round today, the PHS boys golf team will have their region tournament on Monday, April 18th at LaFayette, followed by the girls team, who will compete the next day at Indian Trace, on their side of the region tournament.

Pickens, coming off of a tough loss to LaFayette Tuesday night, looked to get back on track before returning to region play next week. Despite Early Struggles Nettes Open Region Play With Win

Last Tuesday, the Nettes Varsity Basketball team traveled up to LaFayette to take on the Lady Ramblers of LaFayette High School. This was the first region game for the Nettes on this young season as they looked to start it off right with a road win. The fans that made the long trip, would not be disappointed.

Nettes Lose Final Tournament Game Finish Third

Last Tuesday, The Nettes varsity basketball team traveled to Gilmer High School to take on the host team, the Gilmer Lady Cats, in the final game of the Thanksgiving tournament. With a win, the Nettes would get a piece of the tournament title. A win for the Lady Cats, would give them the title outright.

Dragons Beat Gilmer To Win Tournament Title

Last Tuesday, the Dragons varsity basketball team traveled back to Gilmer High School to take on the host team, the Bobcats, in the final game of the Thanksgiving tournament. Bragging rights were at stake as well as a tournament title. If the Dragons came out victorious, they would be tournament champs. If Gilmer defeated the Dragons, there would be a three way tie for first.
