This past Saturday, the Dragons varsity basketball team hosted teams from different classifications at the Dragons Den for the Pickens Holiday Classic. This tournament had boys and girls teams from A-6A come play in both the new and old gyms at PHS. The first game of the Classic had Pickens squaring off with a 6A school, the Woodstock Wolverines.The first quarter in this one was back and forth to say the least with both teams making good plays on offense and defense. The Dragons held the slim lead after one quarter, 10-9. In the second quarter, both offenses shined as 34 combined points were put up with Woodstock outscoring Pickens, 19-15 to take a 28-25 halftime lead.
The Dragons came out in the third determined to get the lead back and get the lead back they did. Pickens used a 19-12 run in the quarter to take a 44-40 lead on the Wolverines going to the fourth quarter. Woodstock outscored Pickens in the fourth, 19-18. However, senior Clay Wigington calmly knocked down two free throws to give the Dragons a hard fought win, 62-59.
Pickens is now 9-4 on the season

Shannon Brooks: 18 points, 1 assist, 11 rebounds, and 1 steal
Clay Wigington: 14 points, 8 rebounds, and 2 steals
Holden Roop: 10 points, 4 assists, 1 rebound, and 3 steals
Trent Rizoti: 9 points and 5 rebounds
Travis Huffman: 6 points, 1 assist, and 1 steal
Doug Timms scored 3 points and Walker Lawrence scored 2 points, grabbed 5 rebounds, and had 3 steals
Pickens will now get ready for the second day of the Classic as they take on A school, the Fellowship Christian Paladins later today. Tip off scheduled for 7:30 pm and will be played in the new gym.
