Dragons Fall To Tough 7A Forsyth Central

Last night, the PHS Dragons varsity basketball team began the 2016-’17 season at home as they hosted the Forsyth Central Bulldogs of 7A. Prior to the game, Pickens head coach Brad Stienhauer was recognized with a special basketball for getting his 100th win as PHS head boys coach last season.

In the opening quarter, Forsyth Central got out to a quick 8-3 lead. The Bulldogs hit several three’s during the period and held an 18-4 advantage going to the 2nd. The 2nd quarter saw Pickens get a little more offensive flow going, but Forsyth Central also stayed hot and ended the quarter outscoring the Dragons 20-10, to take a 38-14 lead into halftime.

 

In the 3rd, both teams saw success at the offensive end. Pickens, nearly doubled their 1st half out put in the 3rd alone with 11 points in the frame. The Bulldogs still held the lead however 50-25. Both teams emptied their bench in the 4th and final quarter as Forsyth Central took this one, 60-32.

The Dragons will be in action twice this weekend, both games on the road. First up, the River Ridge Knights on Friday. Tip off scheduled for 8:30. Then on Saturday, the Dragons will take on the Fannin Rebels in the annual Thanksgiving Tournament at Gilmer High School. Tip off for that one scheduled for 4:30.
