‘Nettes Get Win Over 7A Forsyth Central In Season Debut

PHS Basketball, Team FYN Sports

Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team welcomed the Forsyth Central Lady Bulldogs to the Dragons Den to open up the 2016-’17 season. The Lady Bulldogs, are from the 7A classification, and proved to be a good test for this young ‘Nettes squad.

Forsyth Central got control early in the ball game when they jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead. The 2nd unit for the ‘Nettes turned out to be a big factor in this one as they sparked a run for Pickens to end the 1st period on a 21-11 run to take the lead going to the 2nd. The 2nd quarter was a tightly contested period filled with back and forth action as both teams found success offensively. The ‘Nettes outscored the Lady Bulldogs 12-10, to take a 33-25 halftime lead.

In the 3rd quarter, Forsyth Central made a big time run. The Lady Bulldogs used a 19-11 run in the 3rd to tie things up at 44 a piece going to the 4th and final quarter. The 4th quarter saw really intense action with fans from both sides getting into the game. Two clutch three pointers and several free throws gave the ‘Nettes  the lead late as they held on to get a 61-54 win.

Leading the ‘Nettes in points were:

Mykenzie Weaver with 20

Mackenzie Hampton with 10

Ashley Nelson with 9

Autumn Young with 9

Tessa Duncan with 6
