‘Nettes Get Thrilling Comeback Win, Head To Tournament Championship

During the mid afternoon hours of the day, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team traveled north on 515 to take part in the 2nd day of the Fannin Mountain Top Holiday Classic. The opponent for the ‘Nettes this afternoon was the Lady Trojans of Gordon Lee. A win here, sealed a spot in the Championship game tomorrow night.

 

The 1st quarter couldn’t have gotten off to a better start if you were a ‘Nettes fan. Pickens, started the ball game on a 13-0 run. The Lady Trojans cut into that lead as the ‘Nettes led it, 13-6 going to the 2nd. In the 2nd, Gordon Lee made their run. They outscored Pickens 16-6 in the frame to take a 22-19 lead into the half.

 

The 3rd quarter was tightly contested between the two teams as the Lady Trojans used a 15-13 quarter advantage over the ‘Nettes to extend their lead to 37-32, going to the 4th. In the 4th, the offense & defense for Pickens woke up. The ‘Nettes, outscored Gordon Lee 30-18 in the final 8 minutes, to get the win, 62-55.

 

Leading the way for the ‘Nettes were:

Mykenzie Weaver: 17 points, 1 assist, 6 rebounds, & 5 steals

Ashley Nelson: 13 points, 4 rebounds, & 3 steals

Taylor Wigington: 9 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds, 4 steals, & 1 block

Torie Williams: 7 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds, & 2 steals

Autumn Young: 5 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, & 2 steals

Shelby Cook: 5 points, 4 rebounds, & 1 steal

Mackenzie Hampton: 5 points, & 2 rebounds

Tessa Duncan: 1 point, 1 assist, & 1 rebound

 

The ‘Nettes will now advance to the Tournament Championship tomorrow night at 7 p.m. as they take on the winner of the Roswell & Fannin game. That will be the final game of 2016 for the ‘Nettes.
