‘Nettes Win 3rd Straight, Face Region Leading Lady Bruins Friday

Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team traveled to Bartow County to take on the Lady Tigers of Adairsville in non region action. These same two teams met last Saturday in Jasper with the ‘Nettes coming away with a 72-62 win.

 

In the 1st, the ‘Nettes jumped out to an early lead. While the Lady Tigers found success late in the frame, Pickens still held the advantage going to the 2nd, 17-13. In the 2nd, Pickens continued to build on it’s 1st quarter lead. Using an 18-13 quarter run, the ‘Nettes lead things going into the break, 35-26.

 

In the 3rd, the ‘Nettes defense was very effective. Defensively, Pickens allowed only 7 3rd quarter points, while the offense poured in 16 to increase the ‘Nettes lead over Adairsville going to the 4th, 51-33. In the 4th, Pickens closed things out to get the win and season sweep over the Lady Tigers, 69-52.

 

Leading the way for the ‘Nettes were:

Torie Williams: 15 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, & 1 steal

Mykenzie Weaver: 13 points, 1 assist, 3 rebounds, & 1 steal

Ashley Nelson: 9 points, 2 assists, 12 rebounds, & 1 steal

Mackenzie Hampton: 9 points, 1 steal, & 1 block

Taylor Wigington: 8 points, 6 assists, 6 rebounds, & 3 steals

Autumn Young: 6 points, 6 assists, & 2 rebounds

Shelby Cook: 5 points, & 6 rebounds

Allie Stephens: 5 points, 2 rebounds, & 1 steal

 

The ‘Nettes, will be back on the road on Friday as they travel to take on the Lady Bruins of Northwest Whitfield in a crucial 6-AAAA region game. The Lady Bruins are atop the region standings at a perfect 8-0 & are 14-4 on the season. Pickens, will come into that ball game 12-7 overall and 4th in the region at 3-4. Tip off is scheduled for 7 p.m.
