Weaver Hits Game Winning Free Throws To Push Nettes’ Past Forsyth Central
PHS Basketball, Team FYN Sports January 6, 2019On Saturday afternoon, the PHS varsity Dragonettes traveled to Forsyth County to take on the Lady Bulldogs of Forsyth Central in non-region action. These two teams met in Jasper to begin the 22018-19 season, with Forsyth Central coming away with the win. Pickens, was coming off of a tough loss to Dawson on Thursday, & looked to even this season series before getting back into region play next week.
This game, started out tight, & it had the looks of a close game early on. Both teams, scored 9 points in the frame, & we’d go to the 2nd, all tied up. Both teams remained close as it was a back & forth first half of play. The Lady Bulldogs, outscored Pickens 13-12 in the 2nd, to take a 22-21 lead into the half.
In the 3rd, the Nettes’, built up a little lead on Forsyth Central. Using a 14-10 quarter run, Pickens took a 35-32 lead, going to the 4th. In the 4th, the Lady Bulldogs were able to tie things up in the final minute. The Nettes’, were able to get a 5 second call on Forsyth Central, & Mykenzie Weaver was able to draw a foul with 1.8 seconds left. Weaver calmly stepped to the line, & drained both free throws to give Pickens the 46-44 win.

Olivia Simmons: 2 assists, 1 rebound, 1 block
Sarah Morris: 4 rebounds
Pickens, will be back home on Tuesday as they will welcome the Heritage Lady Generals to the Dragons Den in a key region match up. Heritage, comes into the game 13-2 overall & in 1st place at 6-0 in 6-AAAA. The Nettes’, are 10-8 overall, & 4th in 6-AAAA at 3-3. Tip off scheduled for 6 pm.
