Nettes’ Hand Heritage Their First Region Loss With Overtime Win

Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team, hosted the Heritage Lady Generals in a crucial 6-AAAA region match up. Heritage, came into the game atop the region standings at 6-0, while the Nettes’, came in at 3-3. Good for 4th. The Lady Generals, took the first game of the series earlier in the season, with Pickens looking for the split.

 

It was clear early on that these two teams were evenly matched. After the first quarter, Pickens held a slim 12-11 lead over the Lady Generals. In the 2nd, both teams traded buckets, with Heritage outscoring the Nettes’ 12-9, to take a 23-21 lead into the break.

 

This game remained tight as we entered the 2nd half. The 3rd quarter, saw Pickens outscore the Lady Generals 12-9, to tie things up going to the 4th, at 32 a piece. In the 4th, it came down to the final seconds as senior Torie Williams hit game tying free throws, & Heritage missed a potential game winning three, to send us into overtime, tied at 42. In the overtime period, the Nettes’ outscored the Lady Generals, 8-4, to get a big win, 50-46.

Mykenzie Weaver: 12 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, 2 steals

Hattie Baker: 4 points, 4 rebounds, 1 steal, 1 block

Amanda Nelson: 3 points, 5 assists, 2 rebounds

Sarah Morris: 3 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds

Reagan Harwood: 2 points, 1 rebound, 1 steal

Olivia Simmons: 1 point, 3 assists, 6 rebounds, 1 block

Chloe Walker: 1 point, 1 steal, 1 block

 

Pickens, will look to keep rolling on Friday as they will take to the road to face the Ridgeland Lady Panthers in another big region game. Tip off is set for 6 pm.
