As we enter the winter months, Pickens County Government is taking proactive measures to prepare for potential inclement weather. The county constructed an inhouse brine operation last winter to increase efficiency and serviceability. This past month two satellite brine tanks were installed on the outskirts of the county. The west end tank is located at the corner of Henderson Mtn. Road and Jerusalem Church Road. The east end tank is located off Monument Road. Public Works houses a centrally located tank off Camp Road. All of the brine has been made and tanks are full. Additionally, all of the brine distributors are assembled and ready to activate when necessary. The new system allows Pickens County to sell brine to other entities. The Big Canoe community has taken advantage of this resource, and purchased a tank full of brine in preparation for the winter months. 

During the month of November, the Department of Planning and Development issued 26 new building permits. The Water Department installed five new meters. The 911 Operations Center received 1,725 total calls, 685 were medical responses or fire related. Public Works is performing routine road maintenance and prepping roads for the Winter months. Basketball season is in full swing at Pickens County Recreation Department. Additionally, PCRD will begin registration for Spring Baseball, Softball, and T-ball seasons on January 6th. The regular registration period will conclude on March 1st. A late registration period will be available March 2nd through March 4th. Overall the Pickens County government departments are working hard for the citizens of Pickens County. The Pickens County Board of Commissioners continue to do a great job of leading these efforts.
