Nettes end 2019 in big fashion

The PHS Dragonettes, (10-6, 3-1) looked to end the decade on a high note as they hosted the Lassiter Lady Trojans (1-13, 0-2) in the third and final day of the Pickens Holiday Tournament. Coming into the game, Pickens won their first two games of the tournament, and looked to sweep the whole thing.

 

In the first quarter, the Lady Trojans were first on the board with a three pointer. Senior Mykenzie Weaver, would then go on a personal 7-0 run for the Nettes as Pickens claimed the lead. Lassiter would hit a shot, then the Nettes went on a 9-0 run courtesy of three pointers from Sarah Morris, Chloe Walker, and Kealy Hillhouse. From then on, Pickens outscored the Lady Trojans 11-2, to take a 27-7 lead going to the second.

In the second quarter, the Nettes would go to work offensively and defensively using a big 21-0 run in the frame to stretch the lead out. Lassiter went on a mini 4-0 run to close the half, but Pickens held a 48-11 advantage at the break.

In the third quarter, the Nettes carried over their impressive first half into the second half. Pickens outscored Lassiter 19-8, to go into the fourth quarter with a 67-18 lead.

In the fourth quarter, the Nettes outscored the Lady Trojans 9-5, getting three pointers from Allie Presley, Madison Powell, and Jazmine Chastain. The final score in this one, 76-23.

 

Leading the way for the Nettes were:

Mykenzie Weaver: 33 points

Allie Presley: 9 points

Sarah Morris: 8 points

Jazmine Chastain: 5 points

Madison Powell: 5 points

 

Pickens, will be back home on Friday to ring in the new decade with a home region game. They’ll host the Lady Raiders of Southeast Whitfield. Tip off is set for 7 pm.
