Dragons split in season series with Indians

Dahlonega, Ga — The winter weather moved this game that was originally scheduled for Tuesday, January 27th, to Wednesday, January 28th. The Pickens Dragons, came into the game against the Lumpkin Indians looking to avenge a loss suffered on December 16th. After a tightly contested first half, the Dragons, would outscore the Indians 38-21 in the second half to come away with a 72-53 win.

 

Martin Hulsey, would get things going to begin the game to give the Indians an early lead. Hayden Jones, would tie things up at 2 with a layup. Jordan Richerson, would give the Indians the lead back with a three. After Aiden Mumaw split a pair of free throws, Keiwhan Gallager, would get a layup to go to make it 7-3. McCord Purdy, would get on the board with a bucket to cut the lead to 2.

Richerson and Hulsey, would combine to go on a 5-0 run to make it 12-5. After a basket by DJ Mitchell, Richerson, would hit his third three of the quarter to make it 15-7. Back to back threes by the Dragons, would cut the lead down to 2. Richerson, would split a pair of free throws to make it a 3 point game. A 5-0 run by the Dragons, would put them up, 18-16. Back to back baskets by Richerson and Tyler Cortez, would give the Indians a 20-18 advantage.

Purdy, would tie things up with a late bucket to end the first quarter. Heading to the second quarter, Pickens and Lumpkin were tied at 20.

 

Purdy and Brody Bryant, would go on a mini 4-0 run to make it 24-20 Dragons to start the second quarter. The younger Richerson, Jayden, and Gallagher, would answer with a 6-0 run as the Indians would take a two point lead. An 8-0 run by Hayden Jones and Mitchell, would make it 32-26 Dragons. A three by Jackson Pulley, would cut the lead to three.

After a basket by Jones, Gallagher, would end the first half by splitting a pair of free throws and getting a late layup to go as the Dragons would take a 34-32 lead into the break.

 

Purdy, would get the second half going with a bucket to give the Dragons a 4 points lead. Back to back baskets by Pulley and Gallagher, would tie the game at 36. The Dragons, would then go on an 8-0 run to retake the lead, 44-36. A pair of free throws by Richerson and a bucket by Hulsey, would cut the Dragon lead in half. After a layup by Jones, Landon Pierce, would hit a three to make it 46-43.

Purdy and Richerson, would then trade free throws as the Dragons continued to lead it, 48-45. Purdy and Mitchell, would go on a 4-0 run to make it 52-45. After Hulsey split a pair of free throws, Purdy, would complete an and-1 play to make it 55-46. Pierce, would split free throw attempts to cut the lead to 8. A late three by Mitchell, would give the Dragons a 58-47 lead heading to the fourth quarter.

 

The Dragons, would start the fourth quarter by going on a 10-0 run to stretch the lead out to 68-47. Pierce, would end the run by completing an and-1 play to cut the lead to 18. A 4-0 run by the Dragons, would make it 72-50. Eli Tritt, would complete an and-1 play as the Dragons would run out the rest of the clock to pick up a big 72-53 win.

The Dragons, will be back home on Friday, January 30th as they take on the North Hall Trojans. The Dragons, defeated the Trojans just a couple weeks ago on January 6th. The Dragons, will be looking for the in season sweep and their 4th straight win. Tip off is set for 7:30 pm.
