‘Nettes Suffer First Loss In Final Home Game Of 2017

Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team hosted the Northwest Whitfield Lady Bruins, in a big time region match up. Entering the game, the Lady Bruins were 8-1 overall, & 4-0 in region play, While the ‘Nettes, were 8-0 overall, & also 4-0 in region play. This, would prove to be the toughest game so far for Pickens.

 

The first quarter, was high scoring from the get go. Both teams found success very early & the scoreboard reflected that. Heading into the 2nd, the Lady Bruins held a 20-14 lead over the ‘Nettes. The second quarter, was back and forth, & even throughout the frame. Northwest Whitfield outscored Pickens 15-14, to help take a 35-28 lead into the break.

 

The 3rd quarter, would end up being the determining factor in this one. The Lady Bruins, would use a 29-14 quarter run, to build a 64-42 lead going to the 4th. In the 4th, the ‘Nettes, would close out the game on a strong note as they outscored Northwest Whitfield 16-14. The final score in this one, 88-58 Lady Bruins.

 

Leading the way for the ‘Nettes were:

Torie Williams: 18 points, 4 assists, & 3 steals

Mykenzie Weaver: 17 points, 1 assist, 3 rebounds, & 2 steals

Mackenzie Hampton: 10 points, 4 assists, & 3 rebounds

Shelby Cook: 8 points, 3 assists, & 7 rebounds

Sarah Morris: 3 points, & 1 rebound

Allie Stephens: 2 points, 3 assists, & 1 steal

 

Pickens, will be on the road for the rest of 2017 starting on Thursday when they head to Blairsville to take on the Union County Lady Panthers in non region action. Tip off is scheduled for 7 pm.
