Last Tuesday, the Dragons varsity basketball team traveled back to Gilmer High School to take on the host team, the Bobcats, in the final game of the Thanksgiving tournament. Bragging rights were at stake as well as a tournament title. If the Dragons came out victorious, they would be tournament champs. If Gilmer defeated the Dragons, there would be a three way tie for first.

The Dragons jumped all over the Bobcats in the opening quarter as a big run gave Pickens a 27-7 lead after one. The Dragons outscored the Bobcats slightly in the 2nd quarter, 11-9, as Pickens would take a 38-16 lead into the locker room at halftime. Gilmer would come out fighting in the 3rd quarter as they tried to claw their way into the ball game by outscoring the Dragons 20-10 to cut the lead to 48-36 heading into the 4th and final quarter of play. The Dragons held on as they would lead throughout by outscoring the Bobcats 13-6 and taking the win 61-42 giving them the tournament title.
