‘Nettes Finish Runner-Up In Tip-Off Tourney, Start Region Play Tuesday
PHS Basketball, Team FYN Sports November 23, 2016Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team traveled again to Ellijay, this time to take on their rival, the Gilmer Lady Cats in the third and final day of the annual Thanksgiving Tournament. By virtue of both teams wins on Saturday & Monday, this game, was a true championship game.
The 1st quarter started with the Lady Cats getting the upper hand. The Nettes however scratched their way back into it as Gilmer took a 21-18 lead to the 2nd. In the 2nd, both teams started to trade buckets. The Lady Cats used a slight 15-11 quarter advantage to stretch their lead over Pickens to 36-29 as we hit halftime.
In the 3rd, the Nettes got things going using their defense to spark a big run. Pickens used a 21-12 quarter run to take the lead from Gilmer, 50-48, going to the 4th. The 4th quarter was an emotional thrill ride for both parties. The Lady Cats used a 16-12 run to pull this one out, 64-62.

Mykenzie Weaver: 24 points, & 5 rebounds
Torie Williams: 14 points, 2 assists, & 2 rebounds
Taylor Wigington: 8 points, 5 assists, 1 rebound, & 1 steal
Autumn Young: 6 points, & 2 rebounds
Mackenzie Hampton: 3 points, 2 assists, 6 rebounds, & 1 steal
Allie Stephens: 3 points, & 1 rebound
Ashley Nelson: 2 points, 5 assists, & 9 rebounds
Madison McClure: 2 points, 3 assists, 1 rebound, & 1 steal
Shelby Cook: 4 rebounds, & 1 steal
The Nettes will have the rest of the week off as they begin to prepare for the start of region play next week. Pickens will travel to LaFayette to take on the Lady Ramblers in the opening region contest of the season this coming Tuesday. Tip off time scheduled for 6 p.m.
