Slow Start Hinders ‘Nettes Against 4A Num. 7 Heritage

Yesterday, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team made the trip up to Ringgold, to take on the 7th ranked team in 4-A according to sandysspiel.com, & region 6 foe, Heritage Lady Generals. Pickens, came in to last night’s game with a little momentum after defeating Sonoraville on Saturday to give Coach Enis her 400th career win & looked to even the season series against Heritage.

 

The 1st quarter, was not kind to the team in green last night. Heritage, got off to a 21-5 lead going to the 2nd. In the 2nd, the ‘Nettes offense came alive. Pickens, outscored the Lady Generals 19-14 in the frame to cut the Heritage lead to 35-24 going into the break.

 

In the 3rd, Pickens cut into the lead even more, dropping it to single digits. The Lady Generals used a 24-18 quarter advantage to extend their lead to 59-42 going to the 4th. Heritage, closed out the 4th quarter with a 17-12 advantage to get the win over the ‘Nettes, 76-54.

 

Leading the way for the ‘Nettes were:

Mykenzie Weaver: 25 points, 1 assist, 6 rebounds, & 2 steals

Mackenzie Hampton: 6 points, 2 assists, 4 rebounds, & 1 steal

Torie Williams: 6 points, 3 assists, & 3 rebounds

Taylor Wigington: 5 points, 2 assists, 10 rebounds, & 2 steals

Madison McClure: 5 points, 3 assists, & 6 rebounds

Ashley Nelson: 5 points, & 4 rebounds

Tessa Duncan: 2 points, 3 rebounds, & 2 steals

 

The ‘Nettes, will finally be back home on Friday as they host the Lady Panthers of Ridgeland in a critical region match up. With three games left, & all of them being region games, each game is crucial to the ‘Nettes region tournament seeding. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
