‘Nettes Dominate 2nd Half In Win Over Rival Lady Cats

This past Friday night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team traveled up 515 for their 2nd game of three scheduled regular season meetings with their rival, the Gilmer Lady Cats. The last time these two teams met, it was a non-region affair during the Thanksgiving Tip-Off Tournament held in Fannin. The ‘Nettes won that one by one point at the buzzer.

 

In the opening quarter of this one, both teams saw success on the offensive end, but it would be Pickens who came out of the 1st with the lead. The ‘Nettes held a 14-8 advantage going to the 2nd quarter. In the 2nd, the quarter scoring for both teams were fairly even. Pickens outscored the Lady Cats 11-9, to give them a 25-17 lead going into the break.

 

The 2nd half would belong to the young ladies in green. In the 3rd, the ‘Nettes worked tirelessly on both ends of the floor, leading to a 15-4 quarter advantage. Going to the 4th, Pickens held the lead over Gilmer, 40-21. In the 4th, the ‘Nettes closed out the game with a 17-3 run, giving up just 7 points in the 2nd half. Pickens moved to 6-0 overall & 2-0 in region with a 57-24 win over the Lady Cats.

 

Leading the way for the ‘Nettes were:

Torie Williams: 17 points, 5 assists, 2 rebounds, & 1 steal

Mykenzie Weaver: 14 points, & 6 rebounds

Shelby Cook: 7 points, 1 assist, 10 rebounds, & 3 steals

Mackenzie Hampton: 6 points, 2 assists, 9 rebounds, 1 steal, & 1 block

Hattie Baker: 6 points, & 3 rebounds

Sarah Morris: 3 points, 1 assist, & 2 rebounds

Olivia Simmons: 3 points, 1 assist, & 1 rebound

Allie Stephens: 2 points, 2 assists, & 5 rebounds

 

Pickens, will now begin to prepare for a big test as they will host the Lady Bruins of Northwest Whitfield next Friday. Tip-off for this big game is set for 7  pm.
