PHS Basketball, Team FYN Sports

We had early afternoon basketball today as the PHS Dragons varsity basketball team traveled up to Fannin for the 2nd day of the 2017 Mountain Top Holiday Classic. This time, the Dragons would be facing the White County Warriors.

In the first, both teams seemed to be evenly matched as both squads found success scoring the ball. We would head to the 2nd in a deadlock at 17 all. In the 2nd, White County picked things up a bit, but Pickens would still be in striking distance. The Warriors, took a 29-22 halftime lead.

The 3rd quarter, saw White County stretch their lead out on the Dragons. Using an 18-11 quarter run, the Warriors took a 47-33 lead over Pickens to the 4th. In the 4th, the Dragons showed fight and resolve and started a massive rally. Pickens, stormed back in the final 8 minutes of regulation using a 20-6 quarter run to tie things up at 53 to send us to overtime.

In the first overtime, the Dragons used their momentum built up in the 4th quarter, to grab the early lead. However, the Warriors showed fight of their own. One overtime would not be enough to settle this game as both teams scored 10 points in the frame. We headed for overtime number two all knotted up at 63. In the 2nd overtime, White County would use an 11-4 run to take this one, 74-67.
