Owls Fly South
Team FYN Sports January 17, 2011After losing a school record 10 games in a row the Kennesaw State Fighting Owls have won three of five, including the latest two game win streak. The Owls posted consecutive Atlantic Sun Conference wins, and their first road wins of the season, over the Florida Gulf Coast Eagles (81-70) and the Stetson Hatters (63-62). (more…)
Pickens Falls Short in Region Tournament

The Pickens Dragons fell to the Heritage High School Generals 56-15 in wrestle backs; teams that have lost must “wrestle back” to place in the tournament. The loss ended the Dragons quest for second place in the tournament, and the invitation to the state tournament that came with it. (more…)

Dragons Barely Lose to Grizzlies

The final game of the Pickens Holiday Classic at Pickens County High School featured a down to the wire affair between the host Dragons, and the Creekview Grizzlies. The visitors walked away with a 55-54 win after Dylan Bergman, whose winning bucket was the last of his game high, 20 points. The Dragons’ Austin Murphy, who finished with 14 points, missed a potential game winning half-court shot. (more…)

The NCAA ruled that Auburn University quarterback and Heisman hopeful, Cameron Newton, is eligible to play even though his father, Cecil Newton, was found to have committed a violation when he, and former Mississippi State player, Kenny Rogers, conspired in a pay-for-play scheme while Cameron was being recruited by Mississippi State. AL MVP Home on the Ranger

Texas Rangers center fielder Josh Hamilton was named the American League MVP award today. Hamilton hit 32 home runs, 100 RBI, 40 doubles, and three triples. He also led the AL with .359, and .633 on base slugging percentage, as well as being second in the AL with .411 on base percentage. Hamilton received 22 first place votes, and finished with 358 points. (more…)

The Atlanta Falcons went on the road to St. Louis to face a Rams team that was 4-1 at with the number one rushing defense in the NFL, and grinded out a 34-17 win, with a combination of running back Michael Turner’s radical rushing (131/yds 1 TD 4.7ypc), and quarterback Matt Ryan’s efficient passing (26-39 253 2 TDs). Tide Rolls, Leaves Panthers Black & Blue
Team FYN Sports November 19, 2010The 63-7 home win by the Alabama Crimson Tide over the Georgia State Panthers last night was not the monkeystomping it could have been. Greg McElroy, who set a Crimson Tide single game record for completion percentage with 92.3 (12/13), threw for 157 yards with two picks and zero interceptions, but was pulled in the second quarter. The Tide pulled most of their starters before the half, and played third and fourth stringers throughout the second half. (more…)
Hernandez Wins American League Cy Young
Team FYN Sports November 18, 2010Seattle Mariners pitcher, Felix Hernandez won the prestigious award despite only winning 13 games, the lowest number of any Cy Young winner, with a full season of starts under his belt. Hernandez led the majors with a 2.77 ERA. He also was number one in the AL in innings pitched as well as second in strike out. (more…)

Report: Cecil Sought Three Payments for #2
Team FYN Sports November 18, 2010Bill Bell, a Mississippi State booster and former player, told ESPN.com that he was given three part payment plan, via text, by Kenny Rogers, another former Miss. St. player claiming to represent Cecil Newton, father of Auburn quarterback Cameron Newton. Bell said that Roger’s text stipulated that the first payment of $80,000 was to be made on the day that Newton signed, and that payment would be followed by to payments of $50,000 each 30 days apart.
