‘Nettes Get Back & Forth Win Over Lady Eagles, Face Gilmer Tonight
PHS Basketball, Team FYN Sports November 22, 2016Yesterday afternoon, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team traveled to Ellijay for day 2 of the annual Thanksgiving Tournament where they would face the Lady Eagles of Hiwassee Dam. Pickens, came into the game 1-0 in the tournament while the Lady Eagles were 0-1.
In the 1st, Hiwassee Dam got out to a very strong start. The Lady Eagles raced out to a 21-8 lead going to the 2nd. In the 2nd quarter, the Nettes offense picked it up. Pickens used a 14-4 quarter run to cut the Hiwassee Dam lead to 25-23 at the break.
In the 3rd, both teams had their offenses working. The Nettes again outscored the Lady Eagles 24-22, to cut the lead down to 1, 47-46. In the 4th, the Nettes were able to take control. Pickens used a 23-17 run to close it out and get the win, 69-64.
Leading the way for the Nettes were:
Mykenzie Weaver: 26 points, 1 assist, 4 rebounds, & 2 steals
Ashley Nelson: 15 points, 3 assists, 7 rebounds, & 4 steals
Torie Williams: 10 points, 3 assists, & 3 steals
Shelby Cook: 5 points, 3 rebounds, & 1 steal
Autumn Young: 3 points, 6 assists, 2 rebounds, & 1 steal
Madison McClure: 3 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, & 2 steals
Mackenzie Hampton: 3 points, 5 rebounds, & 1 block
Allie Stephens: 3 points, 3 rebounds, & 1 steal
Taylor Wigington: 1 point, 3 assists, 4 rebounds, & 2 steals
The Nettes, will head to Ellijay once again this afternoon as they take on the Lady Cats of Gilmer. A win for Pickens gives them a tournament win. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
