Last Saturday, the Nettes varsity basketball team traveled to Blue Ridge to take on the Lady Rebels of Fannin in non region action. Pickens, coming off of a big region win against Ridgeland, looked to move their win streak to three. In what turned to an exciting game in the end, it was Fannin who came away the winner.The Nettes started off hot as they raced out to an 11-0 run before the Lady Rebels got things going. Fannin was able to close the quarter out strong after going down 11 with a 9-3 run of their own to cut the Pickens lead to 14-9 after one. The Nettes were outscored in the second quarter 11-7, but still held on to a 21-20 lead as we hit the half.
The Pickens offense stalled to a degree in the third quarter as they were outscored 15-8 by the Lady Rebels and Fannin grabbed the lead going to the fourth, 35-29. The Nettes were on the comeback trail in the final quarter as they used their fouls to give, defense, and offense as they outscored Fannin 12-8 in the fourth to get back into the game. Pickens had a chance in the final seconds to tie it or take the lead, but the Lady Rebels came away with the inbound pass to seal the win, 43-41.
Pickens is now 8-10 on the season with a 4-3 record in region play

Haley Kalson: 8 points, 3 assists, 4 rebounds, and 2 steals
Mackenzie Hampton: 5 points, 3 rebounds, and a steal
Taylor Wigington: 5 points, 2 assists, and a rebound
Kaitlin Redman finished with 4 points, 3 rebounds, and 4 steals, Ashley Nelson had 3 points, an assist, 2 rebounds, and a steal, while Autumn Young had 2 points, 3 assists, and 2 rebounds.
Pickens will be home this week for a pair of region games with major implications as they are tied for third at the moment in 7AAAA. First up, a meeting with the Lady Ramblers of LaFayette this evening. The Nettes are looking to sweep LaFayette and pick up their 5th region win. Tip off scheduled for 6 pm.
