This past Saturday, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team traveled up to Blue Ridge to take part in day one of the annual Thanksgiving Tournament. Their opening game opponent would be none other than their arch rival, the Lady Cats of Gilmer.

In the 1st quarter, both teams starteed back and forth before the Lady Cats closed out the quarter on a run to take an 18-11 lead going to the 2nd. In the 2nd quarter, the Nettes found their offense as they outscored Gilmer 12-6 to cut the Lady Cat lead to just 24-23 heading into the break.

As we entered the 2nd half, both teams again went back and forth trading bucket after bucket. Pickens ended the 3rd quarter on an 11-10 to tie things up at 34 going to the 4th and final quarter. In the 4th, Gilmer got some key turnovers and used that to spring them to a 17-8 quarter run to take it, 52-41 over the Nettes.

Leading the way for the Nettes were:

Mackenzie Hampton: 12 points, 2 assists, & 7 rebounds

Shelby Cook: 12 points, 1 assist, & 7 rebounds

Ashley Nelson: 5 points, 1 assist, 4 rebounds, & 2 steals

Autumn Young: 5 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, & 1 steal

Madison McClure led the Nettes with 4 assists and 3 steals

The Nettes will be back in action tonight as they head back to Blue Ridge to take on Tournament host, the Lady Rebels of Fannin County. Tip off scheduled for 6 p.m.
