Nettes’ Fall To Lady Cats; Prepare For Regular Season’s Final Week

PHS Basketball, Team FYN Sports

Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team made the trek up 515 to take on their rival, the Gilmer Lady Cats. This game was the first of two make up games these teams have due to a power outage, and the snow storm.

In the first quarter, both teams tried to find a groove on offense. The Lady Cats were able to get something going as they took a 12-6 lead going into the 2nd. In the 2nd, Gilmer stretched their lead out to double digits. Using a 15-7 quarter run, the Lady Cats went into the break, up 27-13.

In the 3rd, the Nettes’ were in comeback mode as they made a little run in the quarter. Pickens outscored Gilmer 14-11, to make it 38-27. In the 4th, the Nettes’ tried everything they could to get back into the it using the inside game to draw fouls on the Lady Cat players, cutting the lead to 7 at one point. It would not be enough however as Gilmer was able to hit key shots down the stretch to take this one, 50-41.

Leading the way for the Nettes’ were:

Mackenzie Hampton: 10 points, 1 assist, 11 rebounds, & 2 steals

Ashley Nelson: 10 points, 1 assist, 3 rebounds, & 1 steal

Shelby Cook: 7 points, 1 assist, 7 rebounds, & 1 steal

Kaitlin Redman: 3 points, 10 rebounds, & 2 steals

Madison McClure, Torie Williams, & Autumn Young each had 3 on the night.

The Nettes’ now will turn their focus on the final week of the regular season in hopes of moving up from the 5th spot in the standings prior to the region tournament. Pickens will host the Lady Panthers of Ridgeland on Tuesday for Senior Night in the Dragons Den. Tip off is scheduled for 6 p.m.
