Nettes’ Season Comes To An End Have Eyes On The Future

PHS Basketball, Team FYN Sports

Yesterday, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team traveled to Southeast Whitfield for the 7-AAAA Region Tournament, looking for a 2nd straight state tournament appearance. To do that, they had to get past the #4 seed, and host school, Southeast Whitfield. These two teams split during the regular season. The rubber match, would be the most important one.

In the opening quarter, things were back and forth for the majority of the frame. Southeast Whitfield took the upper hand going to the 2nd, 13-8. The Nettes’ came back in the 2nd quarter, keeping this one close. Pickens outscored the Lady Raiders 10-9, to cut the Southeast Whitfield lead to 22-18 going into the break.

In the 3rd, the Nettes’ looked to again chip away at the lead. The Lady Raiders again pulled away towards the end of the quarter, taking a 40-29 advantage to the 4th. In the 4th, while Pickens fought hard, Southeast Whitfield grew the lead and got the win, 64-42, ending the Nettes’ season.

Leading the way for the Nettes’ were:

Mackenzie Hampton: 13 points, 1 assist, & 5 rebounds

Autumn Young: 11 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, & 2 steals

Shelby Cook: 9 points, 1 rebound, & 1 block

Madison McClure: 3 points, 1 assist, & 7 rebounds

Torie Williams: 3 points, 3 assists, & 2 rebounds

Shae Chadwick: 2 points, 4 rebounds, & 1 steal

Ashley Nelson: 1 point, 2 assists, 10 rebounds, & 2 steals

While their season may have ended in tough fashion, there is a lot to be excited about with this Nettes’ team. Every girl that was on the varsity team this season will be back, not to mention the up and coming young ladies on the JV & 9th grade teams. The future is definitely bright for the Pickens Dragonettes.
