‘Nettes Ring In New Year With Big Region Win

Last night, the PHS Dragonettes varsity basketball team, welcomed the Southeast Whitfield Lady Raiders to the Dragons Den to begin the 2018 portion of the schedule. Pickens, was coming off an impressive end to 2017 as they won the Mountain Top Holiday Classic last week.

 

In the opening quarter, the ‘Nettes jumped out to a quick lead as they were hot from beyond the arc to start. Pickens would use a combination of solid offense, & tough defense to grab a 23-8 lead going to the 2nd. In the 2nd, more of the same from the opening frame continued as the ‘Nettes would extend their lead over the Lady Raiders. Using an 18-10 quarter run, Pickens went into the locker room up 41-18 at the break.

 

In the 3rd, the momentum built in the 1st half by Pickens, carried over into the 2nd half as the offense would continue to find consistent good looks at the basket, & the defense stayed tough throughout. A 22-12 quarter run in the 3rd gave the ‘Nettes a 63-30 lead over Southeast Whitfield, going to the 4th. In the 4th, Pickens, got some younger girls in to gain experience on the varsity level, & to close out the ball game. The ‘Nettes, would take this one by a final of 69-36.

 

Leading the way for the ‘Nettes were:

Torie Williams: 20 points, 7 assists, 3 rebounds, 1 steal, & 1 block

Mykenzie Weaver: 14 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds, & 1 steal

Shelby Cook: 7 points, 1 assist, 7 rebounds, & 1 steal

Allie Stephens: 6 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds, 1 steal, & 1 block

Mackenzie Hampton: 6 points, 2 assists, & 1 rebound

Olivia Simmons: 5 points, 1 assist, 2 rebounds, & 1 steal

Sarah Morris: 4 points, 3 rebounds, & 1 block

Chloe Walker: 3 points, 2 assists, & 1 rebound

 

Pickens, will be back in action later this afternoon as they will host the 10-3, Sonoraville Lady Phoenix in a non region game. Tip off is scheduled for 3 pm.
