Susanne Sparkman Newell
July 14, 1943 – February 4, 2019
Susanne Sparkman Newell, of Big Canoe, Georgia, passed away on February 4, 2019, from complications with Parkinson’s Disease. She was born in Tampa, Florida, on July 14, 1943. She was preceded in death by her parents, Bascom and Eleanor Sparkman.
Susanne was an art teacher for the Fulton County School System and she retired as the vice principal of Esther Jackson Elementary in Roswell, Georgia. She loved her students and her painting.
Susanne received her doctorate in Art Education from the University of Georgia. She spent many summers abroad studying art and painting with various techniques and mediums. She was an accomplished painter well known for the beauty of her paintings. She especially enjoyed painting with her friends at Big Canoe and the Blackberry Creek artists group.
Susanne is survived by her husband, Robert, and stepdaughters, Lisa Jackson and her husband, Sean, and their four children, Brendan, Brooke, Anna Claire and Brody; and Laura Mokhiber and her husband Jason and their daughters Olivia and Presley; as well as many cousins and friends. She will be greatly missed by all.
There will be a memorial service, Tuesday, February 12 at 2:00 p.m. at Big Canoe Chapel. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made in the name of Susanne Newell to The Michael J. Fox Foundation.
Arrangements are entrusted to the staff of Roper Funeral Home & Crematory in Jasper.
