George Goodrum

November 21, 1951 – June 4, 2019

George Morgan Goodrum, age 67, of Jasper, Georgia, passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2019 at Piedmont Mountainside Hospital. He was born November 21, 1951 to Willie and Alice Goodrum in Cairo, Illinois.

George was the youngest of five siblings. Even as a grown man, he was treasured as the youngster by his brothers and sisters, still teased but also admired for all he had accomplished as a successful businessman. George had an easy way with family and friends and his quick wit livened up every gathering. His kindness, laugh and wry smile were infectious. To his siblings and his granddaughter, he was always known as “Bo”.

George’s generous heart will long be remembered by those who love him. He was a natural leader and a great organizer. George was exemplary in service to his community, volunteering on many local boards and committees: the hospital board, his Church, the Chamber of Commerce, and may others. He was widely respected for his service.

George was a pilot and a car collector. He also loved sailing and the island life. George started playing the drums for various bands at a very young age, and had a deep appreciation for music. He was a passionate fan of the Alabama football team and the University’s other sports programs. His life was characterized by faith and his Church was of great importance to him. George built much and gave much in life, but his greatest legacy is his family, which he leaves both saddened and brimming with love. In his honor, we gratefully carry that legacy of love into the future.

George is survived by his wife, Deborah Goodrum of Jasper, Georgia; daughter, Amber Goodrum of Atlanta, Georgia; daughter and son-in-law, Alison and Jeff Hill of Greenbrier, Arkansas; granddaughter, Ashlee Hill of Greenbrier, Arkansas; sister, Linda Jones of Jefferson City, Missouri; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Lisa and Joe Shotts of Cabot, Arkansas, David Wayne and Julie Funderburg of Vilonia, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Nancy Ward of North Little Rock, Arkansas; nieces and nephews, Jana Cooper, Rachel Kuhn, Joseph Shotts, Andrew Shotts, Savannah Shotts, Bunker Kempton Funderburg, Josh and Marietta Ward; and three great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father, Willie E. Goodrum; mother, Alice Austin Goodrum; brother, Elmer Goodrum; sisters, Lupin Goodrum, and Sarai Austin.
