Steve Alton Kirk, age 74, of Talking Rock, Georgia passed away Thursday, October 17, 2019 in Sandersville, Georgia. He was born October 30, 1944 to Horace and Lucile Kirk in Washington, D.C.

Steve Kirk was a devoted member of several Masonic orders. He was a Past Worshipful Master of Pickens Star Lodge #220, a Senior Deacon of Ninth Masonic District Convention and Viceroy of the St. Ambrose Conclave, Red Cross of Constantine. A member of Pickens RAM #28 – past High Priest, Pickens Council #55 – past Illustrious Master, Amicalola Commandery #41(Past Commander), and Past Right Eminent Grand Commander, KT, of the Grand Commandery of Georgia.

Past Patron of Jasper Chapter #479 Order of the Eastern Star, District Deputy, Grand Representative, Grand Chapter Appointed Officer Session Appointee, Grand Chapter Committee, Past Grand Patron of the Grand Chapter of Georgia OES, and General Grand Chapter Committee Member for Scottish Rite Charities for the 2013-2015 triennium.

Scottish Rite Valley of Atlanta – Stage Director, President – Appalachian Scottish Rite, KCCH, Coroneted 33rd, The Traitor Cast, Blue Lodge Ambassador, and member of 33rd degree team.

Member of Cherokee Council #439 AMD – Chaplain, St Ambrose Conclave Red Cross of Constantine – prefect, Carl F. Lester Council #65 Knight Masons, and Luther G. Palmer York Rite College #123.

While he gave much time and was honored with many titles in these orders, he also held several other titles in life. He was a teacher, a veteran, a church deacon, a hunter, a fisherman. Most importantly- he was a husband, a father, a son, a brother, a friend. He enjoyed traveling with Sherri; an afternoon spent fishing with his grandkids; teaching his daughter a smidgen of his woodworking skills; just being with his family; and time with his friends. He will be missed by all who knew him.

Steve is survived by his wife, Sherri Kirk of Talking Rock; daughter and son-in-law, Ami and Kenny Jones of Apex, North Carolina; grandchildren, Tyson Jones, Peyton Jones; sisters and brothers-in-law, Joan and Toddy Hendrix of Marble Hill, Judith Kirk and Karen Kessenberg of Tennessee, Joyce and Wayne Anderson of Jasper; mother-in-law, Clara Koehn of Newton, Kansas; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Jon and Peggy Davis of Kansas City, Kansas. Several nieces, nephews and other relatives also survive. He was preceded in death by his parents, Horace and Lucile Kirk.
A Funeral Service will be held 2:30 p.m., Sunday, October 20, 2019 at Cross Roads Baptist Church with Reverend Nathan Smith, Reverend Buck Parker and Reverend Charles Holbert officiating. Interment will follow in the Cross Roads Baptist Church Cemetery. (Cross Roads Baptist Church – 2207 Highway 136 East; Jasper, GA 30143) Pickens Star Lodge #220 and Grand Commandery of Georgia will be in charge of Masonic Graveside Service.

The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home Friday, October 18, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, October 19, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Sunday, October 20, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be made to Knights Templar Eye Foundation or Cross Roads Baptist Church in Steve’s honor.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
