Obituaries November 3, 2019Barron Ernest Johnson, age 73, of Jasper passed away Wednesday, October 30, 2019 at Advent Healthcare in Calhoun.
He was preceded in death by his father and mother, Ernest Dyer Johnson and Opal Johnson; brothers, Harold Johnson and Hugh Johnson.
Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 52 years, Clara Mae Johnson of Jasper; sons and daughters in law, Jerry and Becky Johnson of Jasper; Bryan and Misty Johnson of Jasper; daughter, Wendy Gibson of Fairmount, grandsons, Jonathan and Rhonda Johnson of Jasper, Thomas Word of Fairmount; Jacob Gibson of Fairmount, Nathan Johnson of Jasper; granddaughters, Emily and Kyle Hodges of Jasper; Ansleigh Johnson of Jasper; two great-grandchildren, Vivian Johnson and Jeremiah Johnson; brothers, Clayton Johnson of Jasper; Gary and Bunny Johnson of Jasper; sisters, Jackie Mullins of Jasper; Sandra and Joe Walker of Jasper; Gail Baldwin of Madison; several nieces, nephews and special adopted families, Manuel, Evelia, Katie, Karla and Camilla Derrossa of Jasper and Bill and Marge Hampton of Russellville, Arkansas.
The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home and Crematory, Friday November 1, 2019 from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m.; Saturday, November 2, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Sunday, November 3, 2019 from 9:00 a.m. until 2:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held, Sunday, November 3, 2019 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Bill Hampton and Reverend Mark Owens officiating. Interment will follow in Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
Barron was a highly decorated Vietnam veteran. He received two purple hearts and one bronze star for his service. He was a respected member of the Hill City Community, the best daddy, papa and friend anyone could ask for. He was known for his quick wit, sense of humor and willingness to lend a hand to those in their time of need. Barron was dearly loved by his family and friends and will be sorely missed by everyone who knew him.
