Robert G. McGraw, Jr., age 81, of Jasper, passed away Monday, January 13, 2020 at WellStar North Fulton Hospital. He was born June 6, 1938 to Robert G. McGraw, Sr. and Irene Parker McGraw in Vardaman, Mississippi.

Robert had a coaching career that spanned 40 years with stints at Hazlehurst High School, Moorhead High School, Holmes Junior College, Delta State University, East Tennessee State University, Louisiana Tech, Ole Miss, East Mississippi Junior College, and Northwest Mississippi Junior College.

He played football and baseball at his alma mater, Delta State University, and was recently inducted into their Sports Hall of Fame. As an avid Golden Gloves Light Heavyweight during his college years, he also won the title of Mid-South Champion.

Coach McGraw is survived by his wife, Mary Neeley McGraw of Jasper; son and daughter-in-law, Robert G. McGraw, III and Shari McGraw of Marietta; son, Ronald Lee McGraw of Jasper; sister, Faye Blackston of Anderson, South Carolina; grandchildren, Matthew McGraw, Madeline McGraw, Kaitlyn MacDonald, Heather Rhen; great-grandchild, Anthony McGraw; and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

A Memorial Service will be held 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 18, 2019 at the Chapel of Roper Funeral Home with Reverend Edgar McDaniel officiating.

The family will be receiving friends at Roper Funeral Home, Saturday, January 18, 2020 from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Shriners Hospitals for Children.

Arrangements are entrusted to the Staff of Roper Funeral Home and Crematory.
