Ask the Doc with Dr. Whaley – numb fingers, sharp pains, and extreme dry skin

Health

Doctor Whaley from the Georgia Cancer Specialist came to sit with us today to discuss some great viewer questions. This week he discussed how smart phone addictions in adolescents are leading to anti social behavior and the following viewer questions:

My fingers have been getting numb and turning white and feel cold and it lasts for approximately 15 minutes should i be concerned?

I have been having sharp pains in one side of my head the pains are sudden and sharp but do not last very long is this just a type of migraine?

Since the weather has been colder i have been experiencing extreme dry skin to the point it skin breaks open and nothing I’ve used seems to alleviate the problem so I wondered if there is an over the counter solution which may help?

Hit And Run Update

News

Wednesday, June 28, Thomas Marlow had his first court appearance in Pickens County.

Judge Alan Morris set his bond at $100,000, cash only, and made the statement to Marlow:

“Leaving the scene of an accident shows you are not willing to stick around and makes you a flight risk.”

He will be applying for an attorney and will have to show proof that he isn’t a flight risk to consider his bond being lowered. Depending on paperwork, he may have a court date set in September.

Following the appearance, FYN spoke with Kim Fitts, daughter of the victim, Craig Wooten. When she was asked about her father’s condition and how she felt the court appearance went, she stated:

His surgery went as good as it could have went and should be able to go home at the first of next week. His goal is to be able to get back on his Harley. I believe in the justice system and feel like things went how they should today. We appreciate the community’s support.

Fetch Your News will be following this case as it progresses.

Pickens County Board of Education Adjusts Start and End Times

Education, News

Pickens County Board of Education agreed last night to change all schools start and end times.

On May 23, 2017 The Board posted an online survey for the community to give their input on the subject. Before taking the survey there was a section above on information to consider before deciding.

Information To Consider:

  •         High school students involved in extracurricular activities will miss less academic time by not missing as much or  any of 4th block class period.
  •         Students who participate in work exit may go to work early and get home earlier.
  •         High school and middle school students will be home before elementary siblings.
  •         Elementary students will not have to be at the bus stop at 6:10 in the morning reducing the time they spend at the bus stop in the dark.

Current start and end times

Proposed start and end times

3,602 surveys were completed to either keep the current times or change to the proposed.

The results were 58.7% were in favor to change the school starts times and 41.3% were not in favor of the changes.

All of the drop off times will remain as they were in the current year. The high school end time was changed and will be 10 minutes earlier than the current end time. Only the middle school adjusted the start time so it will bring the day in sync with the other schools.

2017-18 Start and end times
