Dragons Take It Back To The Basics
Team FYN Sports July 20, 2018
The Dragons of Pickens County High School held their annual youth wrestling cam on Thursday and Friday in the old gym at the school. With right at 21 young athletes aspiring to become a part of the Dragon youth program, Coach Tippens and his staff welcomed several current and former student athletes to assist in teaching various skills and techniques to the campers.
Leading the camp in the instruction was former Dragon Koby Milner. Entering his
Sophomore year at Reinhardt University, Milner was excited to be able to pass down a few of the skills and techniques that he has performed very well through his high school career and first year of college. Koby Milner is a very decorated wrestler with three State Championships, chose to be a member of the Dapper Dan Team and in his freshman year at Reinhardt he brought home a Appalachian Athletic Conference Championship.
Even though several of the camp attendees had never experienced the mats before this camp, every one showed focus and dedication to learn what was being taught. By the end of the final day of the camp, each and every one were putting the techniques together to show they had grasp the ideas and methods of competitive wrestling.
Coach Tippens and the program should be excited for the future of Dragon wrestling as these young athletes continue to learn and get better.
Milner Repeats Now Two-Time State Champion
PHS Wrestling, Team FYN Sports February 14, 2016
Yesterday, Junior PHS Wrestler Koby Milner added to his growing list of accomplishments when he captured his 2nd straight 4A State Wrestling title in the 106 lb division.
To get that 2nd straight title however, Milner had to go through the best 4A had to offer. In his first round match up, Milner faced Tarique Gilmore of Lithonia. Milner was able to advance via pin at the 40 second mark in the 1st period. The quarterfinal pairing saw Milner face Jared Herrera of West Laurens.
Milner picked up the fall 1:28 into the match sending him on to the semis. In the semis, Milner went up against Ricardo Romero of Locus Grove. Milner again got the win via fall at the 1:31 mark to punch his ticket to the finals. The 4A finals of the 106 lb state tournament proved to be Milner’s biggest test as he faced off against Logan Ashton of Buford. In a close match that had to go to extra time to decide the winner, Milner came away with the win and his 2nd straight state championship.
With his 2nd state title victory, Koby Milner has broken the tie he shared with PHS Wrestling great & PHS Athletics Hall of Famer, Chad Wigington. Milner’s journey is not over however as he has one more year to add on to his incredible achievements. There’s no doubt, that Koby is well on his way to joining Mr. Wigington in the PHS Athletics Hall of Fame one day.
