The Pickens Dragons have their biggest game this Friday, as the team hosts the Northwest Whitfield Bruins with a playoff berth awaiting the winner. This game will be the second meeting between the Dragons, who sit at 6-3 this season, and the 8-1 Bruins, as Northwest Whitfield defeated Pickens in Tunnel Hill by the final score of 25-13 on September 13th. The Pickens Dragons finishes out its sub-region schedule this Friday night, as the team heads south to take on the River Ridge Knights in Woodstock. The Dragons are currently 5-3 on the season, including last week’s 21-14 victory over the Johnson Knights, and will be facing off with a River Ridge Knights’ squad that holds a record of 1-7 and are fresh off of a 37-13 loss to the Gilmer Bobcats. White Grounds Green in Pickens Spring Scrimmage

The Pickens Dragons held their annual Green & White spring scrimmage on Friday night, giving all of those in attendance the opportunity to get a sneak peak of the 2013 edition of the Dragons.

This year’s scrimmage boasted some revamped features from the previous years, as the varsity’s game was preceded by games featuring the middle schoolers from Jasper Middle School and Pickens County Middle School (who will be playing on a joint team starting next season) as well as the junior varsity squad and the ninth grade team. All-Region Team for 7-AAAA Announced

The All-Region football team for Region 7-AAAA was released on Monday.

Among the Pickens players selected on the first team were Tanner Brumby at quarterback (Brumby was also selected as the special teams player of the year for his excellent punting skills) and Shannon Brooks at running back.

The Pickens Dragons traveled to Ringgold on Friday night to play the Heritage Generals and did not disappoint the fans that made the trip, as they completely dominated the game and won 45-0, providing the team its first shutout since the season opening game of the 2006 season.

Pickens Dragons Set Sonoraville Phoenix on Fire 50-21

The Pickens High School Dragons football team kicked off the 2012 season, the inaugural PHS campaign for new head coach Chris Parker, with a fire breathing 50-21 crushing of the Sonoraville Phoenix. The Dragons kept the Phoenix from rising, with a 36-7 halftime lead, before finishing with the 50-21 win. (more…)
